SATIS 1200 DLF/TLF Box Coater

Uncompromising Optical Quality with Industry-best Cycle Times

A box coater is only as good as the processes that it supports.  As a leading manufacturer of stock lenses, you certainly require outstanding AR coating hardware.  But while hardware remains essential to your success, it no longer determines the long-term return on investment that you’ll receive from purchasing a box coater.

Today, software processes determine that ROI. That is why, when you purchase our newest and highest performance box coater, the SATIS 1200 DLF/TLF, you gain access to our proprietary processes that deliver productivity gains of up to 50% and cost and cycle time reductions of up to 30%.

Yet these gains are not at the expense of quality, wear resistance or other important parameters.  Rather, they actually support improvements that surpass previous technical specifications across all of these parameters.  Specifically, the 1200 DLF/TLF improves:

-          Optical quality (as measured by bandwidth and residual reflection)

-          Productivity (as measured by cycle times)

-          Handling convenience

-          Wear resistance and durability

-          Price/performance ratios

The result is that you gain greater flexibility in addressing the diverse demographics that comprise your own target markets.   Let’s examine these market dynamics more closely.

Typically, your own customers offer a wide range of eyewear, from high-end to medium-priced to low-end.   But it would be costly and inconvenient if you had to buy different box coaters to handle the lenses used in these different markets.  With the software-controlled processes of the 1200 DLF/TLF, you select -- on-the-fly -- the appropriate trade-off between quality and cost.  When you choose the fastest cycle times, you still get high quality.  When you select the highest-quality, you still get cycle times and productivity improvements up to 50% faster than you would obtain from any competing products.

The 1200 DLF/TLF provides you with three distinct software-controlled coating processes.  The following chart will help you to understand and select the best one to use:

From this chart, please note the following characteristics of these processes:

-          The IONCOTE ZB-ML FAST process is designed for the most discriminating applications, where quality is of the utmost importance and where cost and cycle time are less significant criteria.  SATIS recommends this coating for varnished plastic lenses that require the highest possible levels of wear resistance and durability, along with improved layer bonding.  In addition, you can apply this coating to glass lenses in the same vacuum cycle.

A key reason we achieved these industry-best levels is that we buttressed the classic AR layer package with a new hard buffer layer and intermediate plasma treatments.  This is a proven process, exhaustively tested against conventional ophthalmic lens substrates and all major lens and hard varnish brands.  The independent COLTS test laboratory (USA) found that this process enhanced wear resistance, scratch resistance and bond strength.

-          The Multiquartz Z-P FAST process speeds up cycle time and still offers outstanding quality and wear resistance at a moderate cost.  SATIS recommends this coating for applications that involve mixed batches of varnished and unvarnished plastic Rx lenses.

-          The Performance ML FAST process focuses on delivering a quality coating at the lowest possible cost in the shortest possible time.  SATIS recommends this coating for varnished plastic lenses and for glass lenses.

Benefits You Gain from Purchasing the SATIS 1200 DLF/TLF

  • Up to 30% lower per-coating costs

Regardless of which software processes you use, your costs on a
per-coating basis will be as much as 30% less when compared to earlier generations of box coaters.

  • World-class coating stability for real-world applications

We tested the 1200 DLF/TLF’s ability to meet theoretical specifications in the real world in which our customers operate.  First, during the acceptance test of a process in the commissioning phase, we determined that the standard deviation for the lab points of residual reflection was:

    s = ((complicated equation)) < 1.0 units

    Second, we measured
s in a real-world testing environment:  the Rx lens inventory of a major manufacturer of ophthalmic lenses.   The results were that real-world stock lens coatings were consistent with s < 1.4 units.

In order to achieve this result, all you need to do is follow SATIS’s standard cleaning and calibration instructions.  No special skills, understanding of software or other duties are required.

  • Up to 50% increases in productivity, as measured by price/performance ratios

SATIS believes that the real-world performance and financial results that the 1200 DLF/TLF delivers are unmatched in the industry.  By combining innovative software processes with proven hardware and manufacturing techniques, we are committed to ensuring your success as a leading manufacturer of stock lenses.
